Art, I think I may see the source of confusion. The Pamunkey and Mattaponi reservations are located in King William County, not Goochland. The French people were settled in King William Parish, not King William County.
In King William parish there is an account of a troublesome Saponi Indian who had just returned from Canada. I found this interesting in light of your family history.
