My great-grandmother on my Mother's side was a Hayes. She was from Cumberland county and nearby counties. Her name was Mary Hayes/Hays Johnson. Her Mother's name from death records was a Cherry Hayes. She died in Cumberland county. My great-grandmother was Cherokee Indian I believe and white ancestry, and this is what I was told. I am still searching this information.
