Re: Mother Henriette Delille
In Response To: Mother Henriette Delille ()
Tecchnically in her 19th century Louisiana Mother Henriette Delille would have been considered an "Octoroon".
Octoroon means a person of fourth-generation black ancestry. Genetically, it means one-eighth black. Typically an Octoroon has one great-grandparent who is of full African descent.
Her mother would have been considered a "Quadroon". A Quadroon is someone of one-quarter black ancestry.
