Re: Simpson and Goes in PA
In Response To: Simpson and Goes in PA ()
Hi Brad, I have done some research on the Goe family line; Henry aka Harry Goe dob: 1783
Also I found in The Goe Family book the following on page 3, under Generaton II; 2. MARGARET GOE, b. 19 Aug 1727, Prince George's Co, MD m.before 1762, Richard Hutton. In the 1790 censusof Fayette co., Washiington Twp., PA we find Margaret Hutton: one freewhite female...head of family; seven other free persons; and 24 slaves. In her will she mentions the following listed as 7) My slaves.
I want to research the slave records more thoroughly. When I do, I will fill you in on what I find. Also, I'm guessing you know that George Washington had land in Washington or Fayette county and had a Gilbert Simpson running the place. He also had some slaves working the land. I don't know if there are any tax records or something showing the slaves names. That would be interesting. Anyway, will fill you in on what I find.
