I descend 100% from the FPCs of Northampton County, NC and Greenville County, VA (two core areas for FPCs). While I readily admit to some Native American blood (Cheraw, and perhaps Choctow) - our verbal history states we arrived as FPC mainly from the West Indies before 1750. A Dr. Nickens reportedly located the naturalization papers for the Weavers who arrived from Portugal around 1692.
Overall, my family was called "Portuguese" or "the others"; independent of skin-color. In a nutshell, we ARE early Latinos. In reviewing the given names listed in the census during the early 1800's our Latin heritage speaks clearly, Ferdinand, Sancho, Adeila, Esaw, Benie, and many others.
It is widely accepted many of the FPCs arrived from Puerto Rico, Santa Domingo, Brazil and even Argentina.
Please be advised, I can only speak for my lines.
Regards.
