Re: Tax & Property records from Albemarle Co. VA

: Hello all,

: I finally put my hands on the property and tax records for
: Albemarle County, Virginia from 1800 to 1822. This is my first
: encounter with such records. They seem better than the 1820
: & 1830 Virginia Census schedules. I am trying to draw a line
: from the 1886 obituary of my great great great grandfather in
: Ohio which says he was from Albemarle County, Virginia to
: someone in those records. Perhaps the strongest and only clue is
: the name of one of my ggg grandfather's younger children. I have
: nothing, absolutely nothing else at the moment to go on but this
: information and these records. Any suggestions?

Hi Robert: You know that Thomas Jefferson/ Sally Hemings
and Thomas Woodson all were from Monticello, Albemarle County. You may want to start with your ggg granfather's surname and look for the owners. There has been a lot of research in this county and the Woodsons and others established a community in Ohio, called Berlin Crossroads for their kin and others who escaped from Virginia or were freed.
