Re: Burwell Jacobs SC 1801?
In Response To: Burwell Jacobs SC 1801? ()
The Jacobs family, originally of Virginia, spread to North Carolina and then to the Richland District of South Carolina. Nancy Jacobs was head of a Richland District household of 7 "other free" in 1810, Benjamin was head of household of 6 "other free" in 1810, William 4 "other free," Isaac Jacobs 6 "other free" in 1810. Mary and Sarah Jacobs complained in 1806 about having to pay the discriminatory tax on people of color, and in 1822 Sarah Jacobs, J. Jacobs, Keziah Jacobs, Essey Jacobs, and Sophia Jacobs did not pay the discriminatory tax.
