Re: Foundation of the Guillory family

Fifi Island - Augustin dit Fifi Guillory

Grand Isle is site of celebration for project to rebuild Fifi Island

New Orleans CityBusiness, Mar 8, 2004 by Staff
Grand Isle was the site of a celebration for a project to rebuild Fifi Island, an eroding, uninhabited barrier island north of Grand Isle. Fifi Island is an important buffer for Barataria Bay. A $3 million rock dike project is rebuilding the island using dredge materials from nearby Bayou Rigaud. Officials announced phase one of the project is almost complete.

dit Fifi - also known as Fifi

Joséph (fils) Pierre Grégoire Guillory was born French Mobile, Fort Toulouse, Alabama. His father was born on Massacre Island, now Dauphin Island.

Joséph (fils) Pierre Grégoire Guillory migrated to St. Landry Parish, probably stoping at Fifi Island, were Augustin dit Fifi was born.

I am thinking Fifi Island is why Augustin Guillory used Fifi, meaning from Fifi Island.
