I recently read something regarding the exodus of free peole of color to Haiti prior to the Civl War. The author indicated that many of the emigrees had family that still lived in Haiti and this probably was a contributing factor that led them to feel Haiti was a better option than Louisiana had become. I wonder if Margaurtie had any connections to the island. If so, being the gradmother of Emmanuel, her connections may have influenced his decision to take his family there. My great-great gradfather was Jean-Jerome, Emanuel's son who was born in Haiti. His daughter Avia, my great grandmother was very proud of her father's origins. I often wonder if any Guillory's remained in Haiti.
