Hi,

There is a message thread on either ancestry.com, genealogy.com or rootsweb about the Pettifords. The woman who posted is Mauri Pettiford and she has traced this family from North Carolina, then to Philadelphia for work (where some stayed and passed, some moved to Pittsburgh and didn't)then back to the Carolina's and then down to Georgia to work on the Turpentine Plantations or of to Texas. She has tons of names and documentation, census, marriage bonds, physical descriptions etc. There are lots of people who have responded to her posts and she's helped them a lot. I know all this because she is my brother in law's distant cousin and his grandfather is her great uncle.

I don't personally know anything about this family, but if you do a name search for Pettiford (Or Google Mauri Pettiford) you'll find all the posts.
