BOYLE * SYDNEY~ How to search?

This query, which I presented during the Sunday Brunch chat this morning, was referred by an AOL colleague from

Take a read and see what suggestions you have to offer to facilitate the search. I will also suggest that the original questioner jump to this board to expand her quest. I will leave her email addressed blinded for now.

Thank you for your information and thoughts!!!!
You have given me necessary insights!

My family was very different from the usual European immigrants.
They migrated from Suriname, South America, via Haiti, April 30, 1903.
They were a wealthy former sugar plantation family. When the economy
collapsed in Suriname and the properties were sold and their mother died in 1900, they came to the US And, we believe they had quite a sum of money.

The kicker is that they would have stood out in NY-they were mixed bloods,i.e., Dutch/Africa/S. Amer. Indian-all of them varying degrees of ethnic blood.

The way I found this address was from another sister, Anna Margaretha (nee van Spall) Boyle and her son, William Henry Sydney, age 4 yrs. who came six months later, Oct. 15, 1903.

This address was listed there and she was to meet her older sister, Christina Ooijkas. This from Ellis Island data.

The name, "Dorly" was a guess since the handwriting was so poor to read. It could be "Doily" as well. After this mention, the Ooijkas disappear! So does the youngest sister, Alexina Sophie. I think she went with the Ooijkas' where ever they went.

I always reexamine the data I have to catch what I could have missed before and this is how I realized the 28 Middagh Street location. Now, I am trying to exhaust what is available on this subject.

This is very exciting as I have had such a time finding information about the family here in the US Since you saw my earlier posting "End of my Wits," this research has been extreme with its ramifications!

I'm at the point of looking at any detail I can find.

Since the NY censuses, birth, and death documents all state different
ethnic origins and languages, I am convinced that there is a huge story here in this lineage. I am determined to try and find it.
There aren't many of us descendants left to ask. The only one living who might know the story is my 91 yr. old father, who is mum on this topic.

It's obvious that he have been experienced some kind of trauma about his beginnings. The other relatives in Holland will not cooperate, siting that they will not discuss the "scandal" (?) that apparently occurred. So, you can see how one could be totally taken up in finding out what all the hubbub is!

Your ideas, thoughts, opinions are greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for your help!
