Dear fellow genealogists and kinsmen,
Here are a couple of clues to the identity of Miguel Papillon. First clue can be found in his marriage record. Within the document the parish priest records the information that the bridegroom was a "natif de Natchitoches" and listed the groom's father as Joseph unknowm surname. Avoyelles/Natchitoches...Natchitoches/Awoyelles.....Natchitoches is the answer. Second major clue is Miguel Papillon emancipation papers. Get a copy of this pamphlet; it's a treasure trove for all Papillon descendents. It's in Spanish and French but a translation of it is worth the trouble. The document gives a look into Miguel's slave life from 1780 to 1799, the year in which he completely gained his freedom. Miguel has a rich history of his own and he doesn't need to be confused with anyone else. By taking a look at these two documents, no amount of persuasion will stray u from the truth. Sincerely,
your Honest and reliable kinsmen/amateur genealogist
