Re: Manumission Records Logan Co., OH 1834-1857

Hello Judy,

There is one Stewart and one Walden entry in the Logan County records.

STEWART reads as follows:
" Brunswick Co. page 104
I do certify that the bearer hereof Molly STEWART a free woman about five feet two & a half incs high about 55 years of age has a scar on the left cheek & another on the right & of a yellow complexion was born free. 26 February 1827.

R.Turnball/Turnbull, Clk"

WALDEN reads as follows:
" Surry Co., Virginia page 105
Reuben alias Reuben WALDEN a bright mulatto man Son of Wright Walden & his wife Sally. The said Reuben was born free as appears by a certificate from Benjamin Andrews about Twenty Seven years of age has a large Scar on his right leg produced by a burn also a Small Scar under his nose and is five feet & three fourths inches high. 22 February 1834

Walter S. Booth, Clk"
========================================
A Walden/Stewart conncetion in my genealogy is thru Elizabeth "Betsy" Walden, a granddaughter of John Walden & Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Stewart. Elizabeth "Betsy" Walden born ca 1825 in Ross County, OH married Peter Allen 4 Aug 1842 in Chillicothe, Ross County, OH.

Peter and Betsy migrated to Shelby County in western Ohio where they both passed away. Peter served in the CW with Co. A., 32nd USCT. He and Betsy are buried in Barnett Cemetery in Shelby County, Ohio.

Should you be interested I have much more information in my database on The WALDEN & STEWART surnames.

Good to hear from you....Hope you are having a great summer, missed seeing you at the 'Gathering".

Art Thomas
