Re: Manumission Records Logan Co., OH 1834-1857

Hello vkn,

typed as written
"Northampton Co., North Carolina

This day Mr. Silus Lassister personally came before me Noah Odem....and made oath that Hardy Waid a person of Color was of Free parentage and have even achd as such from his nativity up to this time and that he is clear from any impeachment of being anyways inclinable to do anything dishonest but has our support to a good name and even thout thought he him to be industrious the said Hardy Waid is about 21 years of age & is of light complexion has black Eyes with a little more spat in each of his eyes maust his nose abot 5 feet 9 ?/8 inches high. 7 April 1834

Richard H. Weaver. Clk"

=========================================

This reads as if Hardy Waid was filing a copy of his 'freedom papers' with the Clerk of Courts for Logan Co., Ohio.

In my records I have Hardy Wade as living in Jefferson Twp., Logan Co., OH as of the 1840 Census.

A relative of Hardy Wade, Exum Wade..perhaps a brother married 1st a Delilah Byrd (1 Apr 1847)and later an Elizabeth Artis (1860)in Logan Co., Ohio. The Byrd and Artis surnames are listed in the Manumission Records for Logan Co. and having originated in Northampton Co., NC.
Exum served with in Co. A of the 27th USCT during the CW.

Art Thomas
