Franky Miles and Nathaniel Harrison
I know that I've posted this before, but nothing comes up on a search, so I'm going to do it again. I have a good deal of information about Franky Miles and her descendents. I'm trying to document some of it and I'm looking for people who may be looking for the same family.
In his 1852 Will, Nathaniel Harrison left the house he was living in, the property and the slaves to, Franky Miles, a "free woman of color". Franky had been a slave on his brother's plantation. Through a 3rd person, he purchased her, freed her, and lived with her until his death. If the information Denise gave me the last time I posted this is accurate, he was 80 years old in the 1850 census. Franky and Nathaniel had 3 children who are also mentioned in his will: Edwin Harrison (married a woman named Elizabeth, Betty or Betsy) - Ann Marie Harrison married Walker Jackson and Lurane Harrison married William Anderson. Edwin had 8 daughters (5 of whom show up in the 1850 census). I am a descendent of Nancy Osborne Harrison who was 9 years old in the 1850 census).
I think that I've found the right Nathaniel Harrison. A Nathaniel Harrison appears in the 1790 records, 1810 census, and 1850 census (these are all free on line....I haven't checked any of the other ones). The records that I've found specifically show that Nathaniel is living in Amelia County Virginia and that's where the family is from. There is a Nathaniel Harrison who was born in April 1773 in Amelia Virginia (that's close to the right age) who is a cousin of William Henry Harrison (9th president of the US). His father, Nathaniel and William's father, Benjamin were brothers. But I haven't proven that this is my Nathaniel. There are also references to a William Harrison who may be a relative. He also lived in Amelia Virginia. William Harrison is one of the exectuors of Nathaniels Will.
I would also be interested in finding relatives - cousins - who are decendents of the other children. They would be Jacksons, Andersons and probably a lot more 'cause of the name changes when the girls marry.
This is my maternal line - and it's mostly women. I'll do another posting for the Troy's.
Frankie Miles (lived with Nathaniel Harrison)- Edwin Harrison (married Elizabeth or Betsy or Betty somebody) - Nancy Osborne Harrison (never married) - Mary Ellen Porter (married John Tyler) - Ethel Tyler (married John Thomas Walker) - Mary Walker (married Willis Troy) and then there's me - Judith Troy
