Re: HONESTY: another unique black surname?
In Response To: HONESTY: another unique black surname? ()
Hello HM, My wife, Anita (Harvey) Thomas descends from a branch of the Honesty family tree. Anita is a 2nd great granddaughter of a Hannah Honesty who appears as an FPOC in the Registration of Free Negroes Commencing September Court 1822 for the County of Fairfax, Va. Hannah was born in Fairfax Co., VA ca 1773. This registration book also includes 8 known children of Hannah, one, namely Sanford Honesty, born 1806 in Winchester, Frederick, Co, Va., who migrated to Washington County in SE Ohio where Anita was born. In addition to VA & PA there is a significant number of Honesty descendants found in Washington, Muskingum and Champaign counties of Ohio. To my surprise I even found and Honesty marriage to a Tudor, one of my family lines in Champaign Co., OH in the 1845 time frame. There is to be an Honesty Reunion being held in Zanesville, OH.....Muskingum County....on the Saturday, 19th of July 2008. The reunion site will be the former Armco Park...it has a new name that escapes me at the moment. I have much more information on the Ohio Honesty lines should anyone care to contact me and share information. Art Thomas
