MUNCIE - Elmer Jones, 87, 1901 Carver Drive, passed away Monday, August 2, 2004 at home after an extended illness. He was a life long resident of Muncie, Indiana.
He was a member of Shaffer Chapel A.M.E. Church where he had served as a Trustee, Steward, Secretary and Treasurer. He was also a member of the church choir. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years serving as the building superintendent. He was an Army veteran.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Mildred Jones; one son, Rodney Jones Sr., Muncie, IN; on daughter, Judy Jones Phelps (husband, David), Overland Park, KS; two sisters, Thelma Evans, Muncie, IN and Betty Abbott, Indianapolis, IN; four brothers, Radford Jones (wife, Cora Belle), Vertie Jones, Paul Jones (wife, Mary Lee) all of Muncie, IN, and Arthur Russell Jones, Superior, WI; a daughter-in-law, Marguarite Jones; seven grandchildren, Rodney Jr. and Teresa Jones, Jade, Jordan, Jared and Jamison Phelps, and Nicholas Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews.
His parents, Arthur and Clara Jones; two brothers, Robert and William Jones; one sister, Clara Bell Jones; two sons, LeDon and Terrence Jones, and one grandson, LeDon Jones Jr., preceded him in death.
Services will be Friday, August 6, 2004 at Shaffer A.M.E. Church at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Martel Winburn officiating and Bishop Charles Coatie delivering the Eulogy.
Calling will be Thursday, August 5, 2004 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Funeral services entrusted to FAULKNER MORTUARY.
