Between 1791 to 1820 he freed about 500 slaves.
He lived at VA,Westmoreland-Co,Nomini=Nomony-Hall-Plantation but
owned at least 18 plantations in several Tidewater Virginia counties.
The 500 slaves he owned were distributed & assigned to work on these plantations
& his 12 plantations which were named for the Zodiac:
VA,Pisces-Plantation (one source said he had 2 named Cancer
but failed to identify the location of Pisces) &
VA,Loudoun-Co,Leesburg,Leo-Plantation (renamed Oatlands-Plantation in 1804 by his
son George CARTER & is now home to the Oatlands Plantation museum.
