Not knowing the definition of *tosspot* before now, it nevertheless struck me as insulting because what came to mind was *chamber pots* being emptied by a slave, and that whoever *owned* the slave had so little feeling for the person's humanity that they called him by the chore he was used for...
I don't think I would have kept such a name had I known what it meant at the time..though I would probably have allowed my descendants to know what I was once called..
