Trying To Find FPOC Samuel Smith
![]() My ggggrandmother Johanna Smith, was emancipated from slavery right before the Civil War and sent to Ship Island in Mississippi along with her husband Samuel Smith and children(sent by their former mistress). Johanna would return to Ocean Springs, Mississippi minus Samuel who had died in Louisiana. I can trace her and the majority of the children and some of their descendents but at the present I am trying to find when and where in Louisiana did Samuel die. So many questions, where to look to find answers ... Help Is there a listing of FPOC at Ship Island?
Side note: Johanna would later marry Harry Blunt originally from North Carolina who did serve in the Union Army’s Col’d Infantry Unit 99, Company C, during the civil war. All suggestions welcome... Ocean Springs, MS acheives http://www.oceanspringsarchives.com/blackhistory.html -- Do a find for SMITH-BLOUNT to read part of her history in the archives.
