University of North Carolina Greensboro Professor, Loren Schweninger has compiled an exciting online source for researching what may very well be an underused resource for African American genealogy.

The "Race and Slavery Petitions Project" is an incredible collection of legislative and county court petitions that include a plethora of information on slaves and free persons of color alike.

This is a must search site. Click on "Search Petitions" and then scroll down the subject headings for a long list of FPOC search categories.

I am indebted to Ruth of NC for bringing this site to my attention. My own research took an important turn after only 30 minutes at the site.
