Below is the obituary of Andrew Jackson BRUCE.
1893/03/09 Obituary in the `Waynesburg Republican': "Andrew Jackson BRUCE - Sudden Death of an Esteemed Colored Citizen - Our community was shocked Saturday morning to learn of the sudden death of Andrew BRUCE, which occurred about 6am,the cause being heart failure. Mr. BRUCE had been on our streets & was working the day before. He arose about 5 o'clock that morning but retired again. Near 6, his wife noticed him breathing hard & in a few minutes he expired. He had been in poor health for a year, suffering from heart trouble. He was born in 1830 at VA,Williamsport & was brought here over 50 years ago. He was well & favorably known having the respect of everyone. He was a hard-working, upright, honest citizen. During the war he enlisted in Company D, 6th Regiment U.S. Colored Infantry & was a good soldier. He had been a member of the A.M.E. church for 26 years & had faithfully filled every office of the church (excepting as pastor) at different times in that period. He was a member of the G.A.R. & Masonic Order. He had been married twice, his second wife surviving. He leaves a family of 9 children who are: Mrs. Lucy J. (BRUCE) FERRELL of Washington;
