() Hello Paul, Very interesting...never thought to connect those names to Nat Turner. Using the Ancestry.com African American filter we pick up the names of Artis (Ardis, Artice) Day, Heathcock (Heatcott, Haithcock) and Newsom (Nuseon, Nusum) names from the 1850 Logan County, Ohio Census records forward to 1930. Search Ohio & Logan county. These families are in Ohio prior to 1850, but easier to locate as persons of color beginning with the 1850 Census. Search Results for Logan County persons of color
Original Freedom Registration papers for the Logan County families are on file with the Wright State University Network and some are recorded (abstracted) in the Heritage Books, Inc 1985 publication of "Register of Black, Mulatto and Poor Persons in Four Ohio Counties 1791-1861" by Joan Turpin. The four Ohio counties referenced are Clinton, (1833-1861), Highland (1824-1859), Logan (1824-1857 & Ross (1791-1855). I have a copy of the book if anyone is interested in a lookup. Art Thomas
