Did people who could prove *some* Indian ancestry, even though they were mixed with African, win their freedom in court based on having Indian ancestry?
This has always been a puzzle to me since I read the account of James and Chance, the two Choctaw children stolen and sold as slaves...And their GRANDchild won her freedom when she proved who her grandparents were...
Did that mean that she had no African blood?
