very interesting, question:Did they also tax white families wives? because if they didn't perhaps we can follow samuel bunch on the census to see if he was ever taxed, and that would be an indication that he was mixed. since mixed race can also fall into the category of indian/white, indian/black, black/white, it, also maybe possible that samuel bunch had indian ancestry and not black? I remember obama mentioning in his book that on his mother side there were some indian ancestry but they were not quite sure where, if i remember correctly. i'll also look into Samuel Bunch genealogy to check if he was mixed race,also,was samuel bunch(no 1016)living in a mixed race neighborhood? Who were his neighbors? this could give us some indication if he was mixed? or was he living in a black neighborhood? Some time the census can indicate what type of neighborhood he lives in if you beat me to the punch, do post and tell me all the details, i find all of this facinating since i am a descendent of free persons of color on one of my parent side. Thanks for responding to my post.
