In reply to the "Black Codes" - this is for anyone other than Art Thomas (he's the professor, here, younz): My great grandfather, Sugars T. Jones went to Pa. in 1960, married his (second) bride and they returned to Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio, where he was the AME pastor. Recently, I discovered that even though he was born in Goshen Twp., Belmont County, Ohio, both he and his wife were required to register as emigrates from Pennsylvania to Ohio. How about that? Also, on certain census, Art previously advised me to look at the end of Ohio's census for free mulatoo's when I became angry about not finding Sugar's name or a "mark" to indicate he was in Belmont County.Ohio Historical Society will loan the reel for you to review the list for those who signed this "emigration list."
