hey, guys. I was wondering whether or not what was the meaning of the
word in reference to someone living in 1777 during the spanish period
of Louisiana? In my research,I was scanning the 1777 census of
Attakapas for free people of color and found several children in
various households listed as being an orphan. What did the word mean
during that time period?
