Daniel and Elizabeth Fredison

I am in need of any information that might be out there on Daniel Fredison, African American, who came to Hawaii around 1850, became a naturalized citizen of the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1856. Fredison married Elisabeth from Mauritius. He is listed as a passenger in steerage on a ship bound for Victoria, British Columbia in 1859, where he settled on Salt Spring Island as a farmer with land grants from the BC provincial government. I would like to know what state of the USA he was from, since he did indicate his home as USA on his naturalization papers;family information, occupation. Thank you in advance for any help, clues, etc. I have searched Genealogy.com and Ancestor .com with only two hits on the Canadian census.
