I'm researching my Campbell, Hurley, Wilson, families in Culpeper. There is a register of Free Negroes, etc., located in the public library, in Culpeper, located in the shopping mall enroute to Fredericksburg. In fact, this library is "loaded" with statistical data, including marriages, deaths, and births of people of color. I've been there three times, its never long enough. The library caters to researchers: soft padded chairs, good lights, enclosed quiet area with plenty of computers and copy machine. Be prepared to stay the day. Culpeper was formed in 1749 from Orange County (adjacent land).
