NAs listed on early census

Hi Everyone especially Paul,
I was wondering in your research how many have found information on those who profess to be Native Americans prior to the 1870 census especially during the 1700s and early 1800s.

After viewing AA Lives 2 and having frequent exchanges on the Afrigeneas African Native forum, I am wondering how many have actually found documents that confirm family members were at least part Native American prior to the various rolls and Native American census.

I guess I am a little disturbed that some who may have connections to the early eastern tribes might not be considered NA because the names of their ancestors are not found on the rolls or census, but have done DNA testing and know they carry a Native American gene. As I was told by someone on the African Native forum, if your folks are not on the rolls, they are not and can never be a member of the tribe.

I have seen the information on Paul's website showing his NA research.

Linda
