Re: Elijah H. Griffin of Pasquotank County, NC
In Response To: Re: Elijah H. Griffin of Pasquotank County, NC ()
The only Trueblood/Griffin AfricanAmerican link I can find is from the Pasquotank 1860 census. There is Moses Trueblood (85) and living with him at the time are Nancy Griffin age 60 (a daughter?), Joshua Griffin age 25, Jakey (female) Griffin age 20, Rebecca Griffin age 5, Martha Griffin age 2, and Lucy Thompson age 55. It appears their closest neighbors were African American Griffins: Isaac Griffin age 43, Sarah Griffin age 37 and Norris Griffin age 8. Isaac and Sarah are identified as Mulatto whereas Norris is stated as Black. I am from Pasquotank County, but I have not lived there since 1964. I return from time to time to do genealogical research. The Trueblood name is English. The first American Truebloods were John and Agnes (Fisher) Trueblood, Quakers from England, who arrive in Pasquotank Co. circa 1680. You mentioned Browns in Norfolk Virginia with Trueblood neighbours...were these African Americans?
