Re: Thornton Alexander 1816
In Response To: Thornton Alexander 1816 ()

: I know of a Thornton Alexander, Sr. was born about 1780 and was freed in 1816. He is settled in Randolph County Indiana and is one of the founding fathers of a settlement of free blacks called Greenville Negro (AKA Longtown) settlement which straddled the Darke County Ohio and Randolph County Indiana Line. His bibiography stated he was feed by A. Sellers. A. Sellers Came from Rockingham Coynty Virgina. In Mr. Sellers Bio the sold his land in 1816 and freed his slaves. He took some of his freed slaves to Warren County where his son and nephew settled in the late 1700's early 1800. He then took his freed slaves to Darke County Ohio and bought land for them. Thorton Alexander bought land in Randolph County Indiana in 1822. The cemetary for the settlement on the Indiana side is called the Alexander cementary, where Trorton Alexander Sr. is burried. If you need more info contact me at 937 461-7057. I have done extensive research on the settlement. Roane Smothers
