"One thing to keep in mind when researching Pamunkey ancestors is that there were only about 150 people on the reservation--most of them related to each other and already mixed with the free African American population before 1800".
It is believed that a slave ancestor had several children (5) fathered by a member(s) of the Pamunkey tribe. The births would have taken place between ca 1760-1775 time period.
Seems strange to me, but I am finding stranger things in my research.
