Re: JONES, HARGRAVE,LUCAS
In Response To: Re: JONES, HARGRAVE,LUCAS ()

Shelley:

As most of you know, I've been more involved in tracing the Hargrave, Simmons, Jones, and Newsome families, than the rest, because of living older members. Regretfully the others have taken a backseat. However, this is what I have on the Lucas line: Alcinda Washington married William Cox in Loudoun Co., VA. They are the parents of my great grandfather, Charles R.Cox. Charles R. Cox, a construction builder and Lydia Catherine Water/Walters married in Loudoun County where they had two daughters Pearl and Beulah. By early 1900, they all had migrated to Pennsylvania VA. Lydia's mother: Duanna Lucas, daughter of Solomon Lucas & Henrieta ?, married Henry Waters/Walters, son of ?. All supposedly were from Loudoun County, VA, Leesburg, Hamilton, and Purcellsville. Part of this branch, married into the Enty family in Pennsylvania. Within the Jones branch of my mother's family, my great uncle married Bessie Maude Lucas in Pennsylvania, who's father was Samuel Turner Lucas, born also in VA. Just to make the family (mine) more complexed, there was a Lucas in Ohio who married into the Simmons/Jones family. Ellen Simmons, granddaughter of Anderson Simmons & Sarah Ann Jones Simmons married Wayman Lucas, parents unknown (to me at this time).

From the beginning of my genealogy research, I really attempted to establish a file for the Lucas family, but when finally admitted that it would entail all of my time just to sort which individual belonged to one side of both sides of my mother's family, particularly separating those in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. I first sorted them into 3 files, by state. As I've was able to connect multi relatives by marriages, I associate them accordingly. This created another problem: the lack of an instant cross reference index to the Lucas family using FTM software, or a computer assistant having an interest.

Please bear with me until I reach (hopefully this year) the end results I want with the Newsome-Simmons families. I do have an resouce in or around Columbus, Ohio on the Lucas branch. Check back with me either or both on and/or off line periodically for additional data.
