Re: free ancestors of Richard Pryor in Ilinois 186
In Response To: Re: free ancestors of Richard Pryor in Ilinois 186 ()
Richard Stewart would later marry Richard Pryors ancestor Louise Carter after coming to illinois from Tennessee. FYI, Richard Pryors Carter ancestors appear in the 1850 census in Illinois as free mulattos. Also his ancestor, Harrison Carter is also listed as being born in Illinois aroun 1824! I also found Richard Stewart in the 1850 Tennessee census as free mulattos near a bunch of other people of color named Coker, Stewart, Brown, and Dungee. There was a William Stewart, age about 55 who was a preacher living near by. His birthplace was Virginia. This is the same state where the free Stewarts resided. This William Stewart might be the father of Richard W. Stewart. I remember seeing the names Stewart, Brown, and Dungee on Paul Heineggs website. Interesting stuff. I wonder if Richard Pryor new about his free ancestors. Messages In This Thread
