Re: free ancestors of Richard Pryor in Ilinois 186

saw this reference to Richard Stewart moving to Michigan from Ohio with a group of free people of color in 1856. This is probarly the same Richard Stewart who married the female ancestor of Richard Pryor, Ann Louise Carter, after the death of her husband, Harrison Carter. I found Richard Stewart in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 us census of Illinois. The 1850 census of Harrison Carter and Ann Louise living in Illinois as free people of color is intriguing to me because Harrison's birth is also listed as being Illinois as well! So, it appears that Richard Pryors ancestors have been in Illinois a generation or so before the Civil War. I want to trace Harrison Carter backwards and see what I find.
