Was James Potts Free Colored? I am wondering because there was a Robert Ellison who was in PA (I don't know what county)from 1744 to 1761 then moved to Fairfield SC, and he married an Elizabeth Potts in 1772 who was from Charleston..Don't know where her family was before Charleston...I have been trying to determine whether the Potts family was Free Colored or white...This Robert Ellison was father of the William Ellison who "owned" William 'April' Ellison who was written about in the book Black Masters...(I am also trying to determine if this Robert Ellison was Free Colored or white himself)...So anything you could tell me about the Potts will be appreciated...like if any of your Potts family was ever in SC that you know of...?
