I'm not sure of that connection. I have not been able to identify Elijah with certainty on any pre 1870 census records. Most likely he is one of the two Elijah Griffins listed on the 1860 census living in Pasquotank County. Like I stated earlier the Griffins were an early free family of color in Pasquontank County, so our Griffin connection may be very distant.
