Thanks for the information. I am descended from the Gradenigo's as well. Delia Honore Gradenigo, is my 3rd. g-grandmother from my maternal line. Who are your folks around the Lawtell/Opelousas area? I know alot of them very well. In fact my wife, a Lavergne, is related to some. I will have some time on my hands during the Xmas holiday and plan to do some research on Rachel Keys Chess and John Chevis. I am the principal of Lawtell Elem. which makes me very familiar with alot of the locals and I know of only one family in the area that spells their name "Chevis" all of the others spell it "Chavis". In fact if you are familiar with Zydeco music. Leon Chavis, Zydeco musician, buried his grandmother today. Her name was Willie Mae Pitre-Chavis. I am a bit confused about the Esprit-Chevis-Gradnegio connection. Did John Chavis have two daughters who married into this group? Did Nancy Mary Chevis marry Francois(Lebon)Esprit and Marie Jeanne Nancy Chevis marry Louis Honore Gradenigo? I noticed that they both have Nancy as apart of their names. Knowing how people of that era and even now include an ancestor's name when choosing a name of thier children, I wondered if someone named "Nancy" is a close ancestor?
