There were two differnt lines of Chavis/ Chevis. One orginated from the East Coast (Virginia) . the other as the oral dialect goes was not free. The two families intermarried thus Chevis, which in French the "E" has the "A" sound was changed to Chavis; that's were it gets confusing.. Which family is which......
