BYRD & STEWART, Harnett County, NC

According to the Stewarts Creek, Harnett County Census records, Edmond PARKER (1846-?) who appears to be the son of Lola BYRD (1816- abt.1875) joined company with Martha STEWART (1841-?) between the 1870 and 1880 censuses. Martha had already several children, and ED one (surname BYRD) who all join as one family by the 1880 count. Martha's mother appears to be Dinah CLEMENTES (1795-?).
I am writing for any information about these folks and their surnames, as it has been told to me that BYRD and STEWART were often historically surnames of free persons of color.
Thank you for any reply that you might have.
Autumn
