Very interesting article and notes in the threads. I am from a white family (I thought) until recently I learned that an ancestor, Thomas Bedoona (now spelled Bedunah) was a negro man. He married Lydia Craft, an English woman in 1703 according to the Boston Marriage Records. They were taken to court for fornication before marriage which was probably just as their first child was born a month after they married. I, and several other family members, have been doing some researching as Thomas is our farthest back know ancestor who was a Bedoona/Bedunah. We'd like to know more of his background. We're also researching the name to see where it came from - perhaps some where in Africa. Any help out there would be appreciated.
