Well..I am not satisfied that the name is Geaween OR Graweere...I don't know that a handwriting expert could even be sure what all the letters are...but I'm going to keep fooling with it for awhile..
In the meantime....you said that Philip and Michael are the earliest Gowens (and all the variations) that were Negro in the records? Were there a lot of *white* Gowens of the right age and location to be the father of Philip and Michael?
