hey guys, thought i might throw myself into the fire.. i read tim hashaws book about the first africans in jamestown.. and do remember the part about the debate between the spelling of the surname Gowen. I looked at the copy myself as well. The second letter is an E not an R because you notice the difference between how the author wrote his R's and E's. So it must be "Gowen". And it would make since since the name doesnt appear anymore.
