Re: My LeBlanc Family
In Response To: Re: My LeBlanc Family ()

In the Bois Mallet area where the Guillorys and Gallots resided there was a vigalante movement after the Civil War that resulted in the murders of many free men of color. The Guillorys and Gallots had assisted the Union Army, serving as scouts and patrolled the wagon trails leading west, helping themselves to the fruits of war. These trails were used to bring contraband cotton to rivers such as the Calcasieu and into the Gulf of Mexico and on to Mexican markets. The white populace used the vigalante movement as a cover to settle old scores because they felt the Guillorys and Gallots had taken advantage of Union Army's protection to grow wealthy on "their" cotton. My ggg grandfather, Martin Clepohas Guillory, was the leader of a Jayhawker group called the Bois Mallet Freescouts. He was assasinated by a white mob a few years after the Civil War. His son, known as tee-Cleophas reared his grandson,my grandfather, Freddie Thomas Gallot.
