Re: Longtown Connection
In Response To: Re: Longtown Connection ()
As I read thru this thread I see several surnames that also link to my families. Of particular interest at this time is WARD. An Adams relative (2nd cousin once removed) married Isaac Newton Ward, Jr., who is the s/o Isaac Newton & Mary (Green) Ward.
The elder Isaac was born in 1874 in Wilmington, Clinton, OH, and died in 1954 in Xenia, Greene, OH. In 1880 he is listed with his parents & siblings in Adams, Clinton, OH as follows: ...
Per this census, Philip and his parents were born in VA, however his wife Paulina and her parents were born in NC. A look at the 1850 census, reveals Philip (age 15) with his parents, Simon & Chany Ward, along with siblings Handy?, Martha A, Mary E., Melinda, Simon, Moriah E., and John.
Perhaps there's a connection with the Ward's in this thread.
Regarding the WARD Family. For my purpose I have three WARD family groups. Those from Clinton County, Ohio; those from the Weaver Settlement, Grant County, Indiana; and those from the Cabin Creek and Snow Hill Settlements in Randolph County, Ohio. The ones from Clinton County, Ohio and Grant County, Indiana are more than likely the same family. I base this solely on the fact that so many of the WARD family married into the HORNADAY family and the HORNADAY family of Clinton County, Ohio and Grant County, Indiana are the same family. Showing how inter-connected everyone is... That relative you mentioned (Dale) has first cousins whose great, great grandmother is Rachel WARD HORNADAY of Clinton County, Ohio (later of Grant County, Indiana). These same first cousins of Dale's have a great, great grand aunt, Priscilla HORNADAY WARD, wife of *Handy* WARD, again of Clinton County, Ohio. Notice that name (Handy WARD) as a sibling of Philip WARD in your list. Probably a close relative. Also Dale's grand nephew's grandmother is Camille WARD WARFIELD (Also I believe AAGGMV member Madell WARFIELD has some kind of WARD connection although I am not one hundred percent sure). I have not (as yet) been able to connect the Randolph County, Indiana Settlements Group (the WARD family in this thread) to the ones in Clinton County, Ohio and/or Grant County, Indiana.
