Hi, three women that appear to be my ancestors are listed on the US Census as "Indian" but no tribe is offered. They are Milly, Swcety and Candy Hurst of Virginia. Any help with this racial designation is most appreciated. I'm wondering why they didn't put down a tribe and if this indicates they were mixed Native Americans or fell outside one of the so called "Five Civilized Groups" or what?
