There is a wealth of information on the Locust/Lucas family on www.freeafricanamericans.com. I can't connect your ancestor to my particular group, because I haven't been able to establish a continual line of decendants in Nash County. It stops with several children of Rachel Pettiford & her husband Valentine Locus. Rachel actually died in Wake County in 1852.
