Re: Longtown Connection
In Response To: Re: Longtown Connection ()

=======================================================
I am looking for info regarding my greatgrandfather Nathan W. Ward's family who was born Randolph County abt 1870, Nathan died in Ks abt 1927. His parents were Isaac M. (born abt 1849 IN) and Sarah. I believe Isaac's parents were Nathan (born NC abt 1797) and Catharine (born NJ abt 1815).
Nathan W. had several brothers and sisters, Manual, Ollie, George & Lucy. He married Edith G. Douglass in 1903 Lorin, Ohio. They had 1 child my grandmother Thelma born 1910 Logan County, Ks.
Other persons that seem to be connected to them are Lucy Carney (born abt 1763 NJ and died 1880 in Lansing Ward 3, Ingham Michigan, that would have made her 117 when she died). She may have been Catharine's
mother.
Edward Bowlin or Boulin (born abt 1841 Ohio)
Sarah Bowlin or Boulin (born abt 1843 Ohio)
This is just about all I know about my Ward line, trying to gather a much as I can about them to connect to my Douglass line.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Linda,

Sorry it took so long to respond, had to take time out for "real life". I really don't have much more that what you already have but here it is...

Nathan WARD, born about 1797 in North Carolina evidently was married before his marriage to Catherine and had at least three children...

Jane WARD, born about 1825 in Northa Carolina
Manuel WARD, born about 1832 in Indiana
Uannah? (can't interpret name) A. WARD (male) born about 1835 in Indiana.

With nothing to define relationships it is possible that he was not married and that these are not his children but family members living with him. However that would mean that when he did marry he was 51 years of age, so not likely.

Nathan married Catherine "Maiden name not known" BOLDEN, 09-18-1848 in Wayne County, Indiana. Evidently Catherine was married to "First name not known" BOLDEN and had at least the following children...

Lucy A. BOLDEN born about 1837 in Ohio
Joseph BOLDEN born about 1839 in Ohio
Edward S. BOLDEN born about 1840 in Ohio
Sarah U.? BOLDEN born about 1843 in Indiana
Thomas BOLDEN born about 1846 in Indiana

She married Nathan WARD and had at least these children...

Isaac M. WARD born about 1849 in Indiana
Lyda R. WARD born about 1851 in Indiana

Isaac M. Ward married Sarah U. LADD, 01-28-1869, in Randolph County, Indiana by A. J. HAWLEY.

Isaac is listed at least once in a census record as Isaac M. BOLDEN. Enumerators were wont to do that in census records (list all children under one name).

Generally speaking there are groups of WARDs in Clinton County, Ohio and in the Weaver Settlement, Grant County, Ohio as well as the two settlements in Randolph County, Indiana.

Collateral/Allied names are LADD, OUTLAND, HORNADAY, ROBERTS, STOKES, STAFFORD, STEWART

Doug
