Of my many visits to Longtown, my last visit I discovered of all the many Farms owned by blacks, only one remained black owned, which is James Jett. The old Beer Tavern, started by Cap Clemons no longer stands. The old church remains on the corner. In the old days many families maintain their individual Cemeteries, today many are not well maintained. Many of the childern of Longtown residents, did not take to farming, so they sold ,and moved on to many locations. Many of the settlers on their migration north did not stay, but went on into Canada. Some of my family branched over into Randoloph, and Wayne county Indiana and beyond. As Dick Carpenter tells me all the time ( all of us that branch off of people from Longtown are related.
